Job Summary:

Responsible for the planned profitability, growth and retention of commercial inland marine business within a specified geographic area.  Nationwide subject matter expert (SME) and referral resource in a designated line of inland marine business.  Contribution to the nationwide business plan as per assignment(s). 

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Produce new business and renew existing portfolio in accordance with plan.  Achieve loss ratio plan by determining acceptability of risk based on underwriting guidelines and sound judgment.
  2. Apply leadership skills with co-workers, fostering a teaming approach. Work within established work-flows to meet region time service goals.
  3. Establish and maintain positive, professional relationships with producers, clients and any other external distribution channels.  Utilize effective sales and negotiation skills to obtain and retain accounts on the most profitable terms possible for TMM.
  4. Work closely with other internal departments such as operations, loss control, claims, marketing, audit and accounting to meet client service goals and increase knowledge on your accounts.
  5. Follow TMM and regional underwriting guidelines to ensure the profitability and efficiency of your book of business.
  6. Make use of current TMM technology to process your work.  Update skills as necessary, including but not limited  Excel programs and power point
  7. Act as a nationwide subject matter expert (SME) and referral resource in a designated line of inland marine. 
  8. Responsible for complying with proper internal controls as necessary to conduct job functions and/or carry out responsibilities and/or administrative activities at Company.     

 Other Functions:

  1. Ability to work as part of a team and interface daily with team members.
  2. Performing other duties as may be assigned.
  3. Regular and reliable attendance.


  • Bachelor’s Degree Preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years of commercial underwriting experience or equivalent
  • Familiarity with MS Office Suite
  • Strong oral and written communication skill
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
